Just like in a Hostel

A new hotel in Britain is pushing itself as the hotel to go to if you have had trouble sleeping because of other guest’s unruly behavior or loud music in rooms around you. The famous Travelodge hotel chin is deploying sleep wardens in hotel corridors to curb the practice of staying up late and not letting other s who actually have business to do early morning. They are on duty from 8 pm and stay on till 4 at night roaming around keeping troublesome roomers silent and in order. The sleep warden is given the power to either just giving the noisy guest a warning or if he still continues then he can ask the guest to leave immediately. It is considered as a publicity stunt by many to gain popularity like the human bed warmers campaign by the Holiday inn hotels.

Hotels could instead of asking noisy customers to sleep by night wardens, could use the same money to make room’s noise proof and invest in better mattresses and pillows. Or like the Crowe Plaza hotels which offer aroma therapy and sleep related podcasts to customers who have trouble sleeping along with a free night if the wakeup call is five minute late.

Declaring What You Can’t

A new rule in the Australian airports asks passengers if they have certain things that are neither unlawful nor possibly hazardous to public welfare.  This is asked through the new customs forms that are given to passengers upon landing in Australia.

This also takes into account declaration of any pornographic material that a person may have been carrying with him. This is being asked since the September of 2009 and many passengers have complained about it. This issue was recently raised by the Australian Sex Party and they are asking an end to this ridiculous question.

It is a cause of concern for people who carry pornographic material with them and are on business trips or with families. It is an embarrassment for certain people to be detained for possessing porn with them. These porn carriers have to talk to the customs officer and explain to him what he has or possible even show him.  This according to the Australian press is for avoiding illegal pornography across the border and imparting the social information among the customers that some forms of pornography cannot be tolerated.

The Best Airports

Every Business traveler if flying through a commercial airliner has to spend at least a few hours in the airport port both while landing and flying. But it is a fact that most airports stress travelers out even before actually the trip begins. So it is a huge relief when flying to an airport that makes travelling a breeze and has all the amenities that a traveler requires while moving from one place to another.

This year’s best international airport is The Singapore’s Changi airport that has taken the crown off the last year’s winner Seoul’s Incheon, which has come second this year above the Hong Kong International Airport. These three airports have occupied the last three slots since that last three years and no airport seems to be capable right not to upset them. This survey was conducted by Skytrax research, which is an independent research company.

The Changi airport was inaugurated in 1981 and has won more than 340 international airport awards since then. Another very special mention is deserved for the eight placed Beijing Airport which handles the largest passenger traffic in the world and still manages to occupy the top ten positions. The most notable feature in the top ten lists is the presence of more than 6 Asian international airports in the list that has seen an improvement.

British Airways Strike

The 5 day strikes which were not given permission earlier because of court ruling earlier have received permission to go ahead with the strike. The strikes are going to begin from 24th May. British Airways will have to go with the contingency plans that it had made earlier to reduce the stress on customers.

The airline failed to win the argument against the employees union and so the court gave the injunction as a 2-1 margin. It was not fair for the strike to be called off and banned because of failure for uniting of the British airways crew and it was only common sense that the group was going to win the court appeal that was filed by British Airways.

The strikes were triggered in 2009 when British airways decided to fire a number of employees with the intention of cost cutting by reducing the number of long haul flights that go to and from London. The strikes are being conducted to stop the British Airways from taking these steps.  This is coming along with the losses faced by the airlines due to volcanic ash and fewer long haul trips and doubling in taxes.

Thou the decision was not taken easily with many of the congress members and stated that I looks like there is no right for employees to stage a strike.

Variable Flight Rates

It is a known fact that the prices of domestic and international flights keep changing constantly every day. It depends on the time you purchase the tickets, in this little widows you will get the tickets at its lowest cost but if you miss this little crevice then you will end up paying a lot more than the average rate of flight tickets.

This fluctuation in prices is because of the variable demand of tickets depending on holidays or peak business or holiday season and the competition on the route. A survey done recently found out that the ticket prices of airlines change by about 2 million times in a single year. This volatility in prices causes the customers to lose money on high competition route if they do not buy the tickets on time.

Many online website offer information on ways to save money on traveling by flights. One of the most important ones in these is Farecast and the newest one called Yapta. Farecast was brought by Bing last year to ease the traveler’s vows. Yapta tracks ticket prices to allow probable travelers to note the cost of flights constantly and inform the customer when the cost is the lowest.

Flying in Business Jets

One of the sure ways of telling that the economy on the track to recovery is when Business Jets are back in business the world over. Business jets are small luxurious aircrafts that transport Business men, government officials and wealthy individuals from one destination to another without the hassle and problems faced while using commercial aircrafts. It is the most comfortable way of travelling and comes with the maximum privacy that celebrity’s desire. And it is also a faster way of travelling where schedules time tables need not be kept in mind when hopping from one country to another or from one state to another.

The 2008 global recession had hampered many Business jet airliners and many Business Jets were put up for sale which led to a free fall in Business jet’s rates the world over. The growth in global GDP and rise in overall profits has again elevated the rates of jets and has reached a plateau.

Many Business jets manufacturers like Gulfstream, Boeing, Dassault Falcon and Hawker have received orders for brand new luxury liners in the wake of recession and are on schedule in delivering them. But Business Jet providers realize the fact that recession and unemployment are at their peaks, which could slow things down further.

Beware of Business Spies

Recently the Homeland Security Newswire (HSNW) expressed its concerns about industrial espionage for business men visiting China. They were offered some advice on leaving their smart phones and laptops behind and instead carry a disposable cell phone.

A 2008 intelligence report claimed that China will stop at nothing to steal trade secrets that were backed up by comments from American officials past and present. It is easy for hotel staff to infect laptops and mobiles with spying software. Open forums like the Shanghai expo reported for 4% of espionage relates suspected incidents.

Before the 2008 Beijing Olympics too the U.S. intelligence agency cautioned the Business men for being recruited as new spies.  It is a known case that spying in Businesses occurs frequently which was proved by the Google’s hacking and the attacks on German companies by Chinese hackers. These hacks are estimated to cost about $64 billion a year.

Although the probability of this occurring on a expo is very low and is a persistent problem in china, it is of very flagrant in nature.

Hence a slight precaution needs to be ascertained while travelling to Chinese states and avoid being recruited as unwilling spies. . Hence patriots are advised to avoid Communist countries.

Shanghai Surprise!

The world expo at Shanghai on April 3th was a stark reminder of the Beijing Olympics of 2008. The over pompous affair is a moment to shine and shows that everything is going in favor of China.

Extreme media coverage along with a less universally favorable coverage has brought to attention to the world the unrelenting spirit of Shanghai even in these times of recession. This expo is an astonishing effort on behalf of the Chinese government to polish the “Brand China” image along with being a fun and fair event. The Economist rightly described the fair as ”Something in between a trade fair, a funfair and a template for global domination”.

The surge in number of hotels seen is remarkable considering the fact that these Hotels will be vacant after the end of these expos as seen during and after the 2008 Beijing Olympics in Beijing. It depends on the ability of Shanghai to take over Hong Kong as a fun and vibrant place to do business, and then these hotels and businesses will flourish. Therefore it all depends on the meetings, incentives, conferences and events being booked in these cities.

The reputation of Shanghai lies in the success of this expo to overtake much financer friendly city like Hong Kong. Its reputation is on question here and only time and a lot of effort will show positive results.

Giorgio Armani is well known for its luxury items and products that it sells around the world for a huge premium. There are some brand values that you would associate with the Giorgio Armani brand name. So now when Giorgio Armani has opened up its very fist hotel, you would think that it would mean something in terms of the brand proposition that it entails. This is a new hotel that has 160 rooms and also as many as 8 restaurants that are spread across 11 floors of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which is the tallest building in the world. This is a building that has been based by Emaar properties and this is the company that would be building as well as running the business while Giorgio Armani would be designing it. This is a joint venture that plans to build 7 hotels and resorts around the globe, with another property coming up in Milan over the next year or so.

Giorgio Armani has been good to his promise of actually taking up a building project and seeing it to completion. The last 2 years have been very tough for real estate companies given the global slump and fall in demand, which means that the fact that he has completed the project during such trying circumstances speaks volume of his commitment and zeal.

Future predictions about air travel

It seems as if there are some future predictions about air travel that will be quite not rosy and may even raise your hackles. There are fears in some quarters that the time is not far off when oil will rise to a price of $200 per barrel and when there was havoc when it reaches $120 or so, you can very well imagine the disaster it would represent when it reached almost double the price. It is expected that the future of air travel as we know it is under threat, which means that it will no longer remain cheap. In this day and age most people can fly around if they want to, but if oil stands at $200 per barrel, it will certainly become quite a luxury which most people will not be able to afford at all.

All these future predictions do not bode well for air travelers who will be quite unable to just fly out on a whim. Fancy trips and vacations will be at an end and this is something that not only a few but so many economists are predicting as being quite inevitable, given the way the demand and supply for oil is panning out on the world stage.
